Come see artist Nick Cave as you have never seen him before when he transforms MASS MoCA’s Building 5 gallery into an immersive installation akin to entering the belly of one of his signature Soundsuits. Through exuberant, politically charged materials, Cave probes issues relating to gun violence, race, and gender inequality. Wrapped in bright glitter, the work is sharp and also painfully beautiful. The opening reception features performances in the gallery by two Shreveport, Louisiana musicians: Brenda Wimberly, a soprano singer anchored in gospel music roots, and Sereca Henderson, a musicologist, singer, and organist who has played with Eric Clapton and B.B. King.
Please join us afterwards for a concert in the Hunter Center with Benjamin Clementine at 8:30pm.
Principal support for Nick Cave: Until is provided by an anonymous gift. Major exhibition support is provided by the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation, the Barr Foundation, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, Jack Shainman Gallery, Marilyn and Larry Fields, BeadKraft, and the Robert Lehman Foundation.
